How to Stalk Stocks

At the end of every market day, websites like Yahoo Finance, Stock Market Watch, Business Insider, and Wall Street Journal will post the stocks that they deem the day's 'winners' and 'losers.' The winners are the stocks, from any sector, that have had substantial profit that day. The losers are the stocks that were down a substantial percentage that day. The today's winners and losers lists is a great indicator of investors' moods about that stock and the market as a whole. If you look at my purchase history, I almost always buy a stock the same day it ends as a daily loser, and sell a stock when it ends as a daily winner. In other words: buy low, sell high.

Another great tool to use for analyzing stock success is the 100 Most Popular list. It is true that popular does not always mean good, but it is worth wondering why those 100 stocks made the list in the first place. Instead of ranking the stocks by daily earnings like on the winners and losers lists, the stocks on the 100 Most Popular list are ranked based on their popularity among traders, analysts' ratings, and the percentage of people buying them. Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google, or FAANG, consistently make the 100 Most Popular list. Other popular stocks include: Bank of America, Amazon, Starbucks, Boeing, Twitter, and more. It is helpful to stalk the stocks on 100 Most Popular List because the stocks most actively traded are good indicators of how investors are feeling about the market as a whole. For example, when a FAANG stock has made the 100 Most Popular list and is one of today's winners, an investor can tell that other people were feeling bullish today. On the other hand, when, for example, Bank of America's stock is not a today's winner, an investor can tell that other people were feeling bearish about buying.
